Abraham Thomas, Jr.
“Loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend”
Mr. Abraham Thomas, Jr., 77, took his eternal rest on Sunday, May, 3, 2026 peacefully at home in Waterbury, CT.
Abe was born in Waterbury, CT on August 21, 1948, son of the late Abraham Thomas, Sr. and Mary Hester (Puryear) Thomas. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathy Thomas, sister, Patricia (Reynold) Walker, nephew, Josiah “Jamal” Mitchell, Sr, as well as his former wife and friend Yvonne Thomas.
Abraham, also known as “Hamp”, Junior and Junie to others, loved life. He had a smile that could light up a room and he always knew the perfect joke to tell at the right time. Abraham was a proud car salesman for over 40 years. He was so good at his job, he could often sell you a car even if you weren’t looking to buy and he always made sure you left with a business card. Abe had a soft spot for helping any and everyone. If you needed anything at all, he was there as he truly loved his family and friends. He cherished his childhood memories and loved telling stories of when he would visit Opelika, Alabama with his siblings and dear cousin, Merline Clark.
Abe is survived by his children, Miya (Jeffrey) Thomas-Harris, Aaron Thomas, Alesia (Rashime) Ettson and Stephen (Kaitlyn) Lush all of Waterbury, CT and Kendra MacFarland of Boston, MA. He also leaves behind his baby brother, Brian “Murph” Thomas and Rene Burgos. Abe also leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren Cara Thomas, Aaron Thomas, Olivia Thomas, Rachel Thomas, Caleb Thomas, Jaxon Thomas, Kyron Cruickshank, Amari Ettson, Aleah Ettson and his great grandson Jacob Staples. In addition, he is survived by his niece, Jenil Walker, nephew, Je’Mere Walker and great-nephew, Josiah Mitchell. Abe also leaves behind a host of friends and extended family, as well as a dear friend Henri Michaud.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, 11:00am at Grace Baptist Church, 65 Kingsbury Street, Waterbury. Calling hours will be at 10:00am until time of service. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Colonial Funerals LLC, 270 West Main Street, Waterbury has been entrusted with Abraham’s services, and James R. Sanders, Funeral Director.
