Alphonso Charone Smoakes (Big Mook) was born on November 6,1980 in New Haven to Patrilla Smoakes and Gerald Carr, both of New Haven, Connecticut. Alphonso was born and raised in the New Haven public School System and graduated from Eli Whitney Tech as a Automotive Tech and the auto technology he learned from both of his grandfathers. Big Mook thrived as an auto mechanic and his passion was fixing cars that gave him a challenge. Mook had the biggest heart and would help anyone in need. He had an infectious smile and laugh that caught your attention. To have known Big Mook was to love him. To have been his mother was a privilege to me. Big Mook leaves to cherish his daughter Khyna Wallace, Mother Patrilla Yvette Smoakes, father Gerald Carr. God daughter Emoni Jackson, sisters Shanelle Anderson, Tanekka Mitchell, Ebony Rouse and Deja Carr. Brothers, Mitchell Wright, Steven, Andre, Dante and Isiah. Aunts, Lynelle Adrienne and Kisha. He had five uncles, Tony, Alphonso, James, Gordon and Will and a host of cousins and great aunts. Grandmother Patricia Smoakes, three nieces, Kamali, Nuevah and Sandquist. Alfonso was predeceased by maternal grandfather Vernell Smoakes, Aunt Wanda smoakes, brother, Darryl Anderson, stepfather Leonard Cobbs and James Harris, paternal grandparents, Shirley and Jimmy Green.
