Mr. Alton “AL” Lee Goodman Sr. 72 of 68-C Mortimer Street passed away Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Goodman was born April 25th, 1949 in Gatesville, NC a son to the late William Clinton and Ronnie Anne Williams Goodman.
He was educated in the North Carolina public schools system graduating from Central High School in Gatesville NC, then attending a 2yr college for computer technology.
Alton relocated to Waterbury in the late 60’s where he met and married his sweetheart Linda Davis, to this union they were blessed with two children Alton Lee Goodman Jr. and Shawntina “Goodman” Hodges.
He worked his first job as a shipping foreman at Uniroyal Tires for 10yrs, then Sargent Manufacturing for 17yrs as a computer operator, and finally the State of Connecticut as a computer operator until his retirement at the age of 65.
Alton was a huge sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the Yankees, Knicks, and Dolphins, he enjoyed long bike rides, comedy shows, family game nights playing Spades and bid whist, watching Saturday Morning Cartoons with his kids, cooking Sunday dinners with his wife Linda, one of his favorite meals would be baked macaroni and cheese, southern fried chicken and corn, collard greens with a side of corn bread.  Alton enjoyed traveling home every summer on long car rides every summer with his family to Gatesville NC.  He was a proud man who was family oriented with a commitment to  respect, love and self development.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to mourn his passing by his surviving wife Linda (Davis) Goodman of 52 yrs, one son Alton Lee (Kimberly) Goodman of Bristol CT, one daughter Shawntina Goodman (Dwane) Hodges of Waterbury CT, five grandchildren Shade’a Hodges, Desar’e Hodges, Duwaine Hodges Jr., Cameron Lee Goodman, and Caden Clinton Goodman.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins ,sister and brother in-laws, and family friends including Emanuel W. Jones Jr., Charles Hall, Jeffrey (Peggy) Dupre and Richard.
He was predeceased by his parents William Clinton and Ronnie Anne (William) Goodman, four sisters Beulah Goodman, Clintonteen Goodman, Ruby Lee Goodman, Shirley Goodman, one brother William Clinton Goodman Jr,  Alton was the baby of the family.
A celebration of Alton’s life will be held at Colonial Funerals 270 West Main Street Waterbury on Wednesday march 3, 2021 at 12pm (noon). Viewing in Colonial from 11am-12pm. Interment to follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery. James R. Sanders, funeral director. All COVID-19 mandates will be honored masks are required. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
