Amos Pearsall Joyner Jr.

Amos Pearsall Joyner was born on July 5, 1951. Amos Pearsall Joyner was the beloved son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lillian and Amos Joyner.

Amos graduated from James Hill House High School, where he was the captain of the football team. Playing linebacker, he scored numerous touchdowns and became known as the “Famous Amos.”

He continued his education at Chenney College in Philadelphia and also attended Yale College.

Amos was a very intelligent man, often described as a walking dictionary and encyclopedia. He was highly educated, had a wonderful sense of humor, and brought knowledge and laughter to everyone who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Xavier Joyner and Jonathan Joyner; two sisters, Lillian Tyson and Essie Anderson; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Ethel Tyson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Andrea Joyner; his brothers, Dr. Roy Cogdell, Viggo Joyner, and Angelo Joyner; and his sister, Antoinette   Joyner.

Forever remembered for his intelligence, athletic achievements, humor, and the love he shared with his family and friends, Amos’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A celebration of Amos's Life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT 06514. Viewing will take place at 10:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
