Barbara J. Harris

Barbara J. Harris, of New Haven, passed away on December 13, 2025, peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 17, 1949 in Smithville, North Carolina, to the late Henry and Velma Eldridge. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. A natural caretaker, Barbara found her greatest joy in caring for the children in her family, offering them comfort, guidance, and unconditional love. She loved going to church, cooking for others, and traveling, and she shared these passions generously with those around her. Her nurturing spirit and selflessness touched everyone who knew her, and her legacy of love and compassion will live on through the many lives she cared for so deeply.

She is survived by her beloved family members: Margaret Young; her spouse, William Woods; her children, Charles R. Johnson Jr., William D. Johnson, Errol D. Johnson, and Tonya Johnson; her grandchildren, Ashley Johnson-Wright, Charles Sigular-Johnson, Janai Johnson, and David Johnson; and her great-grandchildren, Bryce Hemingway, Avery Johnson, Holland Wright, Charles W. Sigular-Johnson, and Cali H. Sigular-Johnson. She is also survived by her god-sister, Darlene Wilbon; her special niece, Sharon Miller, who lovingly cared for her; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings, William, Dorothy, John, Wyona, and Clarence.

A Celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 at Thomas Chapel Church of Christ, 30 White Street, New Haven, Connecticut, at 11am. Viewing will be held in Church from 10am-11am. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
