Barbara Matthews Riddick entered her eternal rest on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Barbara was born in Gatesville, NC to her parents the late Ruth Granby and the late William Riddick. Barbara was raised from infancy by her maternal aunt and uncle, Darnie and the late Walter Matthews. Barbara attended school in Gatesville, NC before relocating to Waterbury, CT. Upon arriving in Waterbury, Barbara became a member of Zion Baptist Church where she was a longstanding member for over 60 years. Barbara enjoyed working at the St. John Day Care Center until her retirement. However, Barbara was not ready to retire. She went on to sell jewelry and work for The NOW, Inc. as a senior companion. She was a dedicated worker with ethics beyond measure. Barbara enjoyed arts and crafts. She shared her talents with friends at The Mt. Olive AME Zion Senior Center. She continued to make arts, crafts, and beautiful pictures at home as she was not able to attend her joyful and happy meetings with fellow seniors. Barbara was very much loved by the residents of the Grace House where she resided. Barbara was predeceased by her two sons William D. Riddick and Walter Ervin Riddick, her cousin Vernon Matthews, her brothers William Riddick, Jerry Riddick, Melvin Riddick, Lenny Riddick, Henry Riddick, Edward Granby, John Granby, and her sisters Evelyn McLaren and Ruth Vaughn, . Barbara is survived by 3 sisters, Jean Nurse, Dorothy Riddick, and Connie McCleu, her daughter-in-law Tonya Lisa Riddick, her grandchildren Corey Smith, Montrayl Riddick, Ebony (Kenneth) King, Tonya (Charles) McEachin, and Calvin (Becky) Riddick as well as a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday July 1, 2026 at Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl Street, Waterbury, CT 06704 at 11am with viewing from 10am - 11am.
