Benjamin Barton, born October 11, 1963 to the late Elizabeth Harris and Willie Fletcher Barton Sr. transitioned peacefully surrounded by his staff at his home on August 19, 2022. Ben was such a pleasure to be around. He was adored by everyone. Ben would always greet you with a warm hug and smile. His smile could light up the room.
Ben worked for over 30 years at Marrakech Inc. He was a resident of Marrakech Inc. Orange Crest. Ben stated being a part of Marrakech has been the best thing to ever happen to him. He grew up in New Haven and attended New Haven public schools. You could always see Ben at any Special Olympic events including basketball, outdoor sports, and the bowling league. Ben was a star athlete. Ben participated and won several talents shows additional, he starred in multiple plays at Marrakech. You could often spot Ben wearing a purple tuxedo at Marrakech’s proms. He loved wrestling, Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson. He adored the family and was affectional known as Uncle Scooter. He often called his sister Mary, his Aunt Ruby and his niece Shanna Smith.
Ben is survived by a sister, Virginia Harris of Paterson, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, sisters Mary Barton and Katherine Ulmer, brothers Paul Harris and Willie Fletcher Barton Jr.
Special thanks to the Marrakech staff and his housemates for loving our dear Uncle including Diane Cleary, Stacie Moore and Ebony Latimore. Ben will truly be missed by everyone.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2022, at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Ave, Hamden. The viewing will be at 10am and the service at 11am. Interment private. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
