Ms. Bettie Jean Joyner was born April 17, 1942 and passed away on March 29, 2022. She was born in Ayden, NC to the late Mary Ethel Freeman Joyner and William (Shugg) Joyner. Bettie moved to New Haven, CT in 1963. She retired in 2010 from Saint Raphel Hospital in New Haven, CT where she worked in environmental services for 25 years. She loved watching basketball. Ms Bettie was a huge fan of the Golden State Warriors. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly.
She was preceded by one brother Lattice Joyner (Neda), one sister Glenda Joyce Joyner, one son Jerry Joyner and one stepson Nathaniel Spears. Bettie leaves behind five sisters Peggy and Murphy (Earl) of Aiden, NC, Dicey Joyner of Houston Texas, Gracie Ward Joyner of Ayden, NC, Shirley Ellis Joyner of Ayden, NC, Nettie Lee Joyner of New Haven, CT and three brothers Kurtis Joyner (Jean) of New Haven, CT, Walter Joyner of Ayden, NC, Alton Joyner (Georgia) I have new haven, CT, and William Joyner (Julia) of Ayden, NC. She also leaves behind a son Stephen Joyner of New Haven, CT, daughter Carol Joyner of New Haven, CT, two stepchildren, Janet Wilson (William) of New Haven, CT, James (Edward) Spears (Karen) Of New Haven, CT and one god son Stanley Goodrun of New Haven, CT. Ms. Bettie leaves behind seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
A Celebration of Bettie Jean’s life will be held on Saturday Morning at Colonial, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden at 9:30am. Viewing in Colonial from 8:30-9:30am. Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Hamden Plains Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
