Betty Jean Edwards

Our beloved Betty Jean Edwards completed her journey of life on September 24, 2021 at 87 years old at the Yale New Haven Hospital. Betty was born on December 28, 1933 in Winter Haven, Florida to the late Eugene Sessler and Pearl Sessler (Nicholson).

Betty Jean worked for the Veteran’s Administration for eight years, the New Haven City Parking Authority, and Yale New Haven Police Services for over 35 years.

Betty was a kind and gentle soul who would do anything for her family. She enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, and most of all spending time with her grands and great grandchildren.

Betty is survived by two daughters Shirley “Cookie” Frasier and Candy Edwards both of New Haven; Henry J. Edwards Jr., Michael, Tony, and Gerard of New Haven and Curtis (Linda) Edwards of Land O’Lakes, Florida, and Judy Sesler.

She is predeceased by her husband Henry Jerome Edwards Sr., Son’s Anthony and Salvadore Edwards; as well as her Beloved Marcus R. Lewis. Also, predeceased by siblings James Floyd, Hazel, Cynthia, Alfred, Freddie, Ehennia Jean Sesler. Betty also leaves behind a host of greatgrand children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

A wake will be held on Friday at Colonial Funerals from 6-7pm. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Saturday October 9, 2021 at Varick AME Zion Church at 9am. Viewing in church from 8-9am. Interment to follow at Hamden Plains Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
