Billy Harris Canady Sr.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

These words beautifully reflect the life of Sgt. Billy H. Canady Sr. 80 of Waterbury Ct , who went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 8, 2026 surrounded by his family at home.

Billy was born on October 6, 1945 in Jacksonville North Carolina, to the late Thomas E. and Lola (Pollock) Canady. He completed grammar and middle school in Jacksonville, N.C. before moving to Waterbury Ct . Where he graduated from Crosby High School. After high school, he worked at Pathmark & Century Brass. Billy was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967; his career in the army earned him many accolades and awards alongside serving in Pleiku, Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic leadership while serving in Vietnam.

After retiring from the U.S. Army, he worked at Southbury Training School for 26 years, where he retired in 2012. Billy was known to many as “B.C. or Mr. Bill,” always offering a helping hand or good conversation about life, cars, sports, and dogs. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, UConn Girls Basketball fan, and a man who loved his gospel quartet groups. He loved traveling to any and every family function, rather in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. He was that family member who other relatives reached out to about past relatives and the history of family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Belva Cynthia (Mills) Canady, 4 sons Billy jr, Kevin Dion (Tawana), Travis (Brenda), and Jordan Canady, all of Waterbury, a special god daughter Cynthia Freeman of Waterbury CT, whom his sons consider as their real sister. A sister, Vera Mae Mills of Darlington S.C. A god sister Marion Saunders of Sumter S.C. God brothers, David White of Torrington Ct, James White of Windsor Locks Ct and Louis Canady of Waterbury ct.

A godson, Quintez Brown of Georgia, and Brandon Coleman of Waterbury Ct. 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grands, and 1 special great-grand that’s on the way. A host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

To know Billy, B.C., or Mr. Bill was to know he was pure from his heart, from whatever name you called him, honest and straight to the point. He will be missed by many, especially by his grandkids. There Bond was really something special.

Billy was predeceased by his Parents Thomas E. & Lola Canady, brothers Arthur T Canady Woody S Canady his sister Lela Mae Smith.

Full Military Services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Zion Baptist Church at 11am. Viewing in Church from 10am-11am. Full Military Honors will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury, CT.
