Briquann Chapman, 31, of New Haven, Connecticut, passed away on September 1, 2025.
Born at Yale New Haven Hospital. Briquann was the proud son of Ethel Lewis and Brian Chapman. He attended both James Hillhouse and Wilbur Cross High School, where his vibrant personality and athletic talent began to shine. From a young age, Briquann’s love for football was evident. He played for the New Haven Steelers, where his skill, heart, and determination left a lasting impression on teammates and coaches alike. But beyond the field, Briquann’s greatest joy was his family. For over a decade, he shared his life with Amanda John, the mother of his son, Dontay Chapman. Their bond was filled with laughter, love, and unwavering devotion. Dontay was the light of Briquann’s life, and he took immense pride in being a father.
Briquann was known for his unforgettable personality. He had a unique gift for falling asleep anywhere, something his loved ones captured in countless photos and videos. He was quick-witted, loved a good debate, and often made his point with the sharpness of a lawyer. His loyalty, strength, and intelligence made him naturally respected and admired.
He is survived by his beloved son, Dontay Chapman; his sisters, Lashawn, Brynica, and Takeya Lewis; his brother, Brilonn Chapman; his niece, Bry’chell Gatison; his grandmother, Margaret Wilson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He also leaves behind close friends Anthony Mackay, George Bristow, Jaray Turner, Chaz Reddick, Kenaya Bailey, and Nyasia Porter. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Ethel Lee Byrd and Henry Byrd; his paternal grandfather, Slone Chapman; his aunt, Mary Lou Early; his uncles, Henry Byrd Jr. and Danny Byrd; and his friends, Jaquan Bailey, Dyshant McLean, Daryl Belton, and Davonte’ Warren.
A viewing will be held on Friday, September 12th 2025, from 10-11am at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT, followed by a service at 11am. Burial will follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven,CT. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
Though his time on earth was far too short, Briquann’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. His laughter, loyalty, and love will never be forgotten.
