Caldwell Johnson entered this life on December 27, 1946, to the late Johnny Johnson and Lucille Johnson in Manning, South Carolina. He peacefully passed away on August 12, 2026, at Central Connecticut Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Caldwell graduated from Manning High School, where he passionately enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. After high school, in 1967, he moved to Newark, New Jersey. There, he worked at the Kraft Cheese Factory and Metal Factory as a Machine Operator. In his spare time, Caldwell enjoyed bowling, working on cars, spending time with family and friends. He truly enjoyed helping others.
In 2008, Caldwell suffered an accident, and his sister, Annie Johnson, moved him to Connecticut to care for him. While in Connecticut, he became known by the nickname “Uncle C.” Even though he could not walk, it never stopped him from getting around in his motorized wheelchair. You were often likely to see him riding downtown New Haven or along Whalley Avenue. His independence was unmatched. He always had a smile and never complained.
Caldwell leaves to cherish his memory his girlfriend, Sharon Brown; a daughter, Sharole Brown; and a son, Charles Bowe. He also leaves behind his siblings, Hester Jackson, Annie Johnson, Johnny Johnson, and Lucille Johnson, as well as three granddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Lucille Johnson; and by his siblings, Florlee Watson, Albertha Cantey, Pearline Davis, and Susie Blackwell.
We will always remember Caldwell with love. Though he is no longer with us in the body, his spirit lives on in the memories we hold close to our hearts.
Celebration of life for Caldwell will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Holy Ghost Deliverance Church #2, 15 Mead St. New Haven, CT: Viewing 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Funeral Service at 11:00 am.
