Catherine “Katie” Lloyd, 94 of Woodbridge, Connecticut passed away on December 2, 2021. Born February 4, 1927 to the late Gregory Lopes and Rose Robinson-Lopes, Catherine grew up in New Haven, Connecticut. Her spiritual roots and foundation were cultivated at St. Martin DePorres Church in New Haven. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and shortly after went on to marry Vincent Lloyd.
Catherine had an extensive career as a supervisor at the New Haven Rehabilitation Center. She enjoyed working with people and was known for her warm smile and inquisitive nature. At a very early age, Catherine had a natural gift for the arts and nurtured this God given talent by taking art classes and perfecting her craft. She was a consummate artist whose calling card can be found proudly sealed on many of her paintings and drawings as “Kay loy”. In addition to her brilliant artwork; she was skilled in pottery and created sculptures, bowls and kettles.
Catherine delighted in shopping for interesting things and collected many items and chachkas. She found joy in her later years being active in the Dixwell/Newhallville Senior Center. Her love for the arts continued to flourish through her fondness of theater and acting in senior plays. Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved sisters. Catherine “Kay loy” Lloyd had a strong and feisty spirit that remained to her final days. She leaves behind and will be missed by her sister Mary Sherrod, her god-daughter/niece Pamela Lopes and a host of other nieces, nephews and long-time friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Vincent Lloyd; three sisters and a brother; Anna Deboise, Helena Newton, Alberta Lester and Henry Lopes.
A celebration of Catherine’s life will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 2-4pm at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
