Cleo Batts

Cleo Batts was born June 28, 1950 to the late Ruth Wiggins and Lonnie Bellamy in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the age of 73, she entered eternal rest at Yale Haven Hospital-Saint Raphael Campus in New Haven, Connecticut surrounded by her loved ones.

Cleo attended Halifax County public schools during her school aged years, graduating from Brawley High School in 1968. Soon after Cleo moved to Connecticut with her husband Marvin and daughter Tonia in 1970.

Cleo worked for Amy Sue as a seamstress in New Haven, CT before starting employment at Yale New Haven Hospital in Maternity Services where she worked for 28 plus years.

Cleo was one SHARP COOKIE a “Fashionista. Nothing was cheap about her. Cleo loved to shop and she loved her plants. She had a heart of love. She always helped others even during her sickness.

Cleo leaves to cherish in her loving memory, husband Marvin Batts Sr., daughter Tonia R. Batts and son Marvin Batts Jr. Her siblings, (brothers) Melvin (Gwendolyn) Wiggins and Rodney Wiggins of Scotland Neck, NC, (sisters) Diane (James) Powell of Scotland Neck, NC, and Claudia (Bobby) Greene of New Haven, CT. Wendell, Barry, Donnell, Joan, and Pat of North Carolina. Brother in-laws Theodore (Hattie) Batts NC., and Tyrone (Harriet) Batts, PA. Six grandchildren, Heath Jr. (Nisha), Marvin III, Xavion, Cam ’ron, Peyton Jr., and Cody. Four great grands Jaida, Ny ’aire, Zalillla, and Xavion, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Also, a special friend Barbara Johnson. C

Cleo was predeceased by her parents Ruth Wiggins and Lonnie Bellamy along with father & mother in-law Henry (June) and Revernal Batts.

A Celebration of Cleo’s life will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 6pm., at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden Connecticut. Viewing will be held in Colonial from 5pm-6pm. Burial will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, in Scotland, Neck North Carolina. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
