Consuela Denosa Laurent

Consuela Denosa Laurent, 70, of West Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026. She was born on April 3, 1956, to the late Christopher Penn Sr. and the late Shirley Penn-Bustin. Consuela was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and caring spirit touched many lives. She dedicated many years to helping others through her work in the human services field for the State of Connecticut and also worked as an administrative assistant at the former Park View Medical Center. Her love and compassion for children extended far beyond her own family. Consuela owned and operated Cabbage Patch Daycare and also opened her heart and home to many foster children, many of whom affectionately called her “Mama Connie.” Caring for children was an important part of her life, and she took great pride in nurturing and supporting them. Consuela was also a wonderful cook who loved preparing meals for her family and sharing her food with those she loved. Her family will fondly remember her pride in a meal well made and her familiar declaration, “That was delicious.” She enjoyed old-school R&B music, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and loved watching Asian short dramas, often knowing the characters by name. These simple joys became cherished memories for those who knew her best. Consuela leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Daniel Penn, Andrea Penn, Shawn Thomas (Rondell), and Sherree Bolden; her stepchildren, Linton Laurent, Justin Laurent, Jason Laurent, and Christine Marina; her grandchildren, Autumn Penn, Matthew Elder, Mahoganie Elder, Alexis McMillan, Christopher Ransome, Trinity Dawson, Gary Ross, Giovanni Bolden, Gia Bolden, Grayson McMillan, Khazir Smith, Harmony Smith, A’Joni Ross, and Legacy Myers; her siblings, brothers Donnell Counsel, Willie Penn-Cousel, and Eddie Penn, and sisters Carnetta Penn and Markisha Penn; and her goddaughter, Lynisha Barr. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oliver Laurent; her sisters, Hyacinthe Penn and Billette Bennett-Mohammed; and her brothers, Christopher Penn and Percy Penn. Consuela will be deeply missed by her family, friends, the children she cared for, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her love, laughter, generosity, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
