Cynthia A. Hayward-Mcclendon

Cynthia Hayward-McClendon, 66, of New Haven entered eternal rest on December 7, 2023. Cynthia was a nurturing mother, devoted sister, beloved cousin, mentor, and friend. She was born on June 16, 1957, in New Haven, CT, to the late Robert Hayward and Hattie (Barron) Hayward. She grew up in New Haven and attended and graduated from Wilbur Cross High School.

She earned an associate degree in Business Administration from Stone School of Business in Hartford CT and worked for the State of Connecticut for thirty years as an Administrative Clerk for Superior Court. She received numerous certifications and technical training to support her professional career. After retiring from the state, she moved to Nashville, NC until health concerns brought her back to New Haven.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Marvin McClendon, her daughter Denise Stewart (Teshan), stepdaughter Marlesha McClendon-Brissett, stepson Marvin McClendon, Jr., granddaughter Zira Stewart, grandson Teshan Stewart, Jr., and by her siblings Celestine Hayward-Collins (Clarence) of Hamden, John Hayward of Berlin, CT, Richard Hayward of New Haven. She was predeceased by brothers Robert Hayward, Jr., and Danny Hayward. Cynthia cherished all her nieces and a host of relatives and friends.

She will be remembered for her brilliant smile and love of life, for how she relished family gatherings and spending time with friends. Cynthia always had a style of her own. She will be missed by all of us who loved her.
