Deacon Henry L. Spellman, Sr.
WATERBURY – Deacon Henry L. Spellman, Sr., 91, of Waterbury, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Waterbury Hospital. Deacon Spellman was the husband of Rosella (Riddick) Spellman.
Deacon Spellman was born on October 24, 1929 to the late Andrew and Gracie (Ferebee) Spellman in Camden, North Carolina. Deacon Spellman moved to Waterbury from North Carolina in 1956. Deacon Spellman was employed by and retired from Chase Brass & Copper Company of Waterbury.
Deacon Spellman served his country in the United States Army. Deacon Spellman was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Assembly Church of Waterbury where he served as Senior Deacon and in many other church ministries. Deacon Spellman was also a former member of the Crownbrook Neighborhood Association. Deacon Spellman enjoyed reading and studying his Bible, gospel music, reciting poems, some of which he wrote himself, watching wrestling and spending time with his loving family.
Deacon Spellman leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 64 years, Rosella Spellman, 7 daughters, WillaFaye (Eddie) Moore of Indiana, Loretta Hurdle, Darnetta Wiggins, Grace Spellman, Gayle (Bert) Pittman, Cherrie (Kerry) Ervin all of Waterbury, Tamara (Othar) Wilson of Meriden, 3 sons, Henry L. Spellman, Jr. and Mark (Ruth) Spellman, Sr. both of Waterbury and Timothy (Birgit) Spellman of Colorado, a special son James R. Sanders, 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grands, and 5 great-great grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom he loved dearly.
Deacon Spellman was predeceased by 6 sisters, 4 brothers and 1 grandson, Wallace L. Wiggins, Jr.
Services for Deacon Spellman are walk-through calling hours Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 65 Kingsbury Street, Waterbury, Connecticut with private Military Funeral Services on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Grace Baptist Church.
