Deborah Elaine Young, affectionately known as “Lucy”, was born in New Haven, CT to the late Lula Mae Young. She attended New Haven Public Schools, graduating from James Hillhouse High School in 1980. Lucy excelled academically and athletically, well remembered on the basketball court and representing her graduating class as “Miss Hillhouse”. After high school, she attended South Central Community College (now CT State Community College – Gateway), having majored in Business Administration and Finance while also working for the City of New Haven in the Comptroller’s Office. She held various jobs in retail and healthcare, and served as a leader and community organizer in the West Rock community. Lucy relocated to Greenville, SC in 2017, holding hospitality jobs and selling her handmade crochet garments and jewelry at a local craft market. Lucy leaves to cherish her memory: sons Robert Antoinne Young (Ina), Jonathan Lamar Young, Clarence Fuller III, and Todd Wallace Jr. and daughter Toddchelle Jean Young (Ademar); grandchildren R’Eyon Young and Jayceon Young; sister Paulette Trimble and brothers Edward Trimble (Tané) and Anthony Maurice Trimble; nieces Bria Harvin and Asiah Trimble; nephews Ryan Carter, Brandon Smith (Carrie), Shea Smith, Anthony Trimble, Brandon Trimble and Koran Trimble; three great nephews and four great nieces; aunts, a host of cousins, and extended family members. Lucy is predeceased by her parents and older sister Sandra Jean Oates; additionally, her uncles Edward Young, Harold Young, James Young, and Lee Harris, and aunts Louise Young, Lois Young and Margaret Young.
A Celebration of Deborah’s life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 9am at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden CT. Viewing in Colonial from 8-9am. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
