Delilah (Goode) Henry was born in Sprague, West Virginia on May 4, 1939 to Emmette William and Lucinda (Hankins) Goode. She was well known for her deep faith, sense of fashion, and ferocious passion for education.
Delilah graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley, West Virginia and West Virginia State University. She continued to pursue her education through multiple graduate degrees culminating in a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Connecticut. She retired after more than two decades in the Waterbury School System as teacher, administer and guidance counselor.
She married Roland Lester Henry, having met teaching at the same school in Wilmington Delaware, and raised two children after moving to Waterbury, Connecticut, Donna Renee and Roland Byron. Service to the church and community were the cornerstones of her life demonstrated by her work in founding the Senior Center at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church, the Waterbury Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and membership in Links, Inc and Grace Baptist Church of Waterbury, Connecticut and 19th Street Baptist Church of Washington, DC.
Delilah G Henry transitioned into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 11, 2024 after a period of illness. She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, and all but one of her seventeen brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children: Donna R Cryer, JD (Dennis R. Cryer, MD); Roland B Henry (Allison Ramsey-Henry); her grandchildren Jonathan Eric Cryer, MD, Catherine Grace Cryer, DVM, Laura Rose Cryer, Eliza Helene and Lucinda Ramsey-Henry; her sister Rev. Alena Goode Marbury; and many dear nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 27, 2024 at 11am at Grace Baptist Church, 65 Kingsbury Street, Waterbury. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers or other gifts that donations be made the Granville Academy of Waterbury at P.O. Box 2891, Waterbury, CT 06723.
