Delores Ann Benson

Delores Ann Benson, 65, of Meriden, CT gained her wings on Sunday, October 9, 2022. Delores was born June 24, 1957 to Gussie and James Benson Sr. of New Haven, CT.

Delores went by many many names,  her 3 sons called her “Ma”, her family called her “Dee”, “Lori Pooh”, “Bootah”, “Auntie Ma”, “Lois”, and “Mama Lou”. Each grandchild of hers had their own special name for her, “Grandma”, “Granny”, “Nana”, and “Wewa”.

She was known for being the life of the party. Whenever there was a celebration she was always the first one to hit the dance floor. She always had a passion for drawing and crafting things. She loved paint n’ sip nights with the family. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, watching Family Feud, the Sci-fi channel and Horror flicks. She absolutely loved family time, spending quality time with her 3 boys and grandchildren always brought her joy and laughter. She also loved spending time with her dog DJ who undoubtedly became her 4th son.

Delores leaves to cherish her memory, her 3 loving sons whom she adored with all her heart, Torray (Damaris) of Meriden, CT, Daniel (Chenik) and Christopher Armfield (Jasmine) of Hamden, CT. Grandchildren Torray Jr. Torrez, Danielle, De’ara, Delilah, Chris Jr. and Chrisette Armfield, Abdul and Amya Perry, Marquette Elliot, Great granddaughter Alessia Perry. Sisters Judy Williams, Victoria (Eddie) and Latasha Benson. Brothers Jarrey, David, Anthony and Gregory Benson. A special niece and best friend Crystal Stevenson, niece Kirby Benson and nephew Anthony Stevenson who she helped raise as her own and her loving dog Dj. She also leaves a host of many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Delores will be met at the pearly gates in Heaven as she was predeceased by her mother Gussie Benson, father James Benson Sr., brothers Tommy and James Benson Jr., a niece Trevena Williams and her grandbaby De’zyre Armfield.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Colonial, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden from 10am-12pm. Funeral Services will start at 12pm (noon) at Colonial. Interment will follow in Hamden Plains Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com.
