Demetrius Thomas age 50, departed this life suddenly on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Yale New Hospital. He was born September 22, 1974 in New Haven, CT to Samuel McElveen and Celestine Thomas.
He attended New Haven Public Schools and graduated from Wilbur Cross High School. Meat married Lashonda in 2006, where he became a father to George Smatt. He was gainfully employed at Project Moore until his health started to decline.
Meat loved cooking, family fish fry’s and he was a grill master, he would be cooking and eating at the same time Tasha said. He also loved playing spades, blackjack and going to the casino with his boy Tareek. Meat loved spending time with his family, friends, and his grandson Amir who was the light of his life.
Meat was an awesome son, husband, father, brother, friend and confidant. He loved everyone he encountered with his friendly self. They were either his boy or cuz, everyone knew “Big Homie”.
Demetrius leaves to cherish his memories his wife Lashonda Thomas, parents Celestine Thomas and Samuel McElveen, sisters Lakwanza Thomas, Kamikka (Paul) Whiting, Kiamma (Terry) Spearman, uncles Samuel(Leona) Thomas, Byron and Kenneth McElveen, Aunts Delores Price, Cassandra Daniels, Daphney Smith, Joyce McElveen and Mary Green-Hooks of New Haven, CT. Godmother Rebecca Hamilton. He leaves a host of cousins, family members, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grand-parents Samuel and Christine Thomas, paternal grand-parents Mary and Samuel McElveen, aunts Linda Thomas and Nadine McElveen, uncle James A Staton Sr and cousin James A Staton Jr.
A celebration of Demetrius‘s life will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 11am at colonial funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden CT. Viewing in colonial from 10-11am. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
