Howard Atkinson, 40, of New Haven, Connecticut, passed away on August 18, 2025, in his hometown. Born on November 6, 1984, in New Haven, Howard spent his life deeply rooted in the community that shaped him.
Howard worked for the city of New Haven as a Downtown Ambassador, a role that perfectly suited his outgoing personality and love for connecting with people. His presence was a familiar and welcome one throughout the city—his laughter echoing down sidewalks and his energy lighting up every corner he touched.
He was known for being family-oriented and down to earth, with a natural gift for humor that made him unforgettable. Howard had an uncanny ability to turn any moment into a funny one. Whether through a quick-witted joke or an animated story, he brought joy to those around him. Mention his name in any room and someone would surely smile and recall a hilarious memory—he truly was the life of the party.
Howard’s legacy lives on through his three beloved sons: Dennis Atkinson, Marqise Atkinson, and Zacario Atkinson. He is also remembered with love by his mother, Ella Atkinson; his grandmother Mary Boone; his siblings—Charlene Atkinson, Roger Atkinson and his wife Leenelle, and Kevin Atkinson.
He was preceded in death by his father Howard Lee Boone; his grandmother Lucille Atkinson; and his grandfather Eldee Mention.
Howard’s vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His laughter will echo in memories shared by friends and family alike. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire joy in their hearts.
A Funeral Service will be held on September 6, 2025, from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Deliverance Temple Pentecostal Church 584 Congress Avenue. Viewing in Church from 10-11am. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
