The Life & Legacy of Divonne Jaquel “DJ” Coward

On Wednesday September 30 , 2020, Divonne Jaquel Coward also know by family and friends as DJ was called from his earthly home to claim his mansion in Heaven at the tender age of 27. Divonne was born April 24, 1993 to his loving supportive mother Debra Coward in New Haven, CT.

DJ when growing as a little boy he would attend Trinity Temple C.O.G.I.C. with his late grandmother Emma Taft. Divonne started fellowshipping later with Mt. Zion SDA Church in Hamden, CT. He attended New Haven public school throughout his childhood and graduated from James Hillhouse High School. Following graduation DJ went straight to the United States Army. After completing his service duties in the Army, DJ continued his education at Lincoln Tech and at Gateway Community College. DJ was also employed by American Green Fuels as a machine operator.

Divonne was a serious health nutritionist, a financial conservator, and a big kid at heart. He loved wrestling with his little cousins, and most of all being someone you can count on in any time of need. During DJ’s travels here on Earth he became a proud dad to his only son Elijah Coward, whom he adored.

He leaves behind to cherish and honor his memory: his loving mother Debra Coward of New Haven, CT, Grandfather Dennis Grimes, 1 son Elijah Coward, and 1 God-son Dennis Grimes Jr. 1 brother Gary Threet (fiancé Sherrie Wilson), 2 nieces Nyla and Ledgend Threet, and 1 nephew Jordan Threet.
