Donna Gaye Greene

Donna Gaye Greene, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at the age of 78. She was born on November 11, 1945, in New Haven CT to parents Wesley Batts from Elm City N.C., and Ruth Giles from Hamden, CT.

Donna lived a life centered around her family. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her beloved husband Wallace Greene and children. Her home was a place of love, commitment, and dedication-a reflection of her steadfast spirit.

Cheri, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, will be remembered for her quiet strength and unwavering devotion to those she loved whether it be sharing time with family or offering words of encouragement. She lived her life with grace and humility. Her love for her husband and family was evident in all she did and continues to be an inspiration to those she left behind Donna was an avid gardener. She loved cultivating all types of plants, especially flowers. During the summer months you can always gaze at the beautiful and colorful flower gardens in the front and back yards. There were also plants to be admired inside the house as well. She had the unusual gift from God of making plants grow and thrive. She definitely had a green thumb!

On May 24, 1985, she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Southern CT State University. She was employed as a schoolteacher in New Haven working at Katherine Brennan School, Richard C Highschool, various substitute teaching positions, and did volunteer work.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Wallace Greene, son Keith Greene, grandchildren Travis Greene, Janae Greene, Miles Greene, Adrian Hassell Jr, Tyler Strothers, two great grandchildren, and other extended family members who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Ruth Batts, her sons Wallace Greene Jr and Kenneth Greene, her daughter Susan Greene-Soto, and grandsons James Harris and Anthony Strothers.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit lives in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love for her family will continue to shine through all who she lives she touched.

A service celebrating Donna’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.  Viewing is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Funeral service is from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT (https://www.google.com/maps/search/86+Circular+Ave.,+Hamden,+CT?entry=gmail&source=g).
