Dorothy Carter

Dorothy “Larry” Evelyn Parson Jackson Carter, a devoted mother, and faithful servant of God, peacefully passed away at Emory University Hospital in Decatur, GA on Sunday, June 11, 2023, comforted by family and friends at the age of 93. She will be laid to rest on Monday, June 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Dorothy was born in New Haven, CT at New Haven Hospital on July 10, 1929. She was the youngest of four children of the late Loretta [Woods] Parson and the late Arthur Parson. She was educated in the New Haven Public School System and attended Winchester School and Hillhouse High School. She was a woman of profound faith and for more than four decades, she dedicated her life to serving the Lord and tirelessly spreading His message. Through her unwavering devotion and commitment, she lovingly led many souls to Christ while nurturing their spiritual growth.

In addition to her spiritual calling, Dorothy obtained her license in Cosmetology. She worked at Yale New Haven Hospital in the ICU and later found great joy in helping people as a private duty nursing assistant. For many years, she lovingly offered compassionate care to those in need. Her nurturing presence provided immeasurable comfort and solace during their most vulnerable and challenging moments. It was through her love and commitment that many encountered the love of Christ for the very first time while under her care.

Dorothy also had a keen eye for fashion and a love for jewelry. She loved bright colors, and her elegant sense of style reflected her inner grace. She loved to knit blankets. She enjoyed music, singing and dancing and as a young lady performed and won singing and dance competitions. She also co-wrote a song and recorded it with 2 friends.

Dorothy cherished her family above all else. As a mother, her love knew no bounds. She was blessed with seven children, whom she cherished and loved unconditionally. She instilled in her children the same values of faith, love, and kindness that she held so dear, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire. Though three of her children preceded her in death, their memories were forever cherished in Dorothy’s heart.

For nearly three decades, Dorothy called Georgia home. Her warm spirit, gentle and caring nature, and genuine love for people endeared her to the hearts of all who had the privilege of crossing her path. Her selfless acts of kindness brightened and enriched the lives of countless individuals. Dorothy’s quiet and thoughtful presence made her an inspiration to those who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her extended family and friends.

Dorothy was predeceased by Gad L. Carter {husband), Josephine Ballard (sister), Bertha Kelly (sister), Arthur Parson, Jr (brother), Dennis Jackson (son), Celisa (Jackson) Williams (daughter), Floyd Robinson (son) and Raphael Robinson (stepson). Dorothy Carter leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. Her memory will forever be cherished by her surviving children; two sons; Henry Jackson IV of Upper Marlboro, MD, and William Jackson of Hamden, CT, two daughters; Deborah Swope of Nashville, TN and Dawn Robinson of Atlanta, GA, and a host of grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends…

Dorothy’s unwavering commitment to God and her family will forever shine as a guiding light in our hearts. As we gather to bid farewell to our beloved Dorothy E. Carter, let us find solace in the knowledge that she has found eternal peace in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

One of Dorothy’s favorite scriptures, Proverbs 3:5-6, beautifully captured her unwavering trust in God:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

May her life inspire us to embrace faith, love, and compassion as we continue our own journeys.

Rest in peace Mom. We will love you forever!
