Edwina Jamison Long of Hartford, CT passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 8, 2025, after a long illness.

Edwina was born in New Orleans, LA, on September 15, 1946, to Elma Lee Miller (Simmons) and Willie Jamison, Sr.

In 1962, When Edwina was 16, she decided to move to New Haven, CT. There she decided to make a life for herself. She lived with her aunt and uncle on Henry Street and she went to James Hillhouse High, where she graduated. Shortly after meeting the love of her life, they married and had 3 beautiful children.

Edwina worked for many years. She was employed at the City of New Haven Town Clerk’s office from January 10, 1977, to May 29, 1981. From there, she was employed at the former SNET now known as AT&T from 1981-1996 as a Securities Representative. Lastly, Edwina was employed at the Connecticut Institute of the Blind (Oak Hill) from July 20, 1998, to December 30, 2011. She retired in 2011 to become a caregiver to her ailing husband until his untimely death in January 2014.

In addition to being employed, Edwina attended South Central Community College in the 1980s, receiving credits toward a degree in Business Administration. She was awarded a certificate in Nursing Assistant in 1992 and also received a diploma in Therapeutic Recreation at Gateway Technical College.

Edwina was a long-standing member of The New Trinity Temple COGIC in New Haven, CT (Bishop Charles H. Brewer, III, Pastor) and recently started worshiping at Greater Glory COGIC in Hartford, CT (Bishop Augustus Pullen, Pastor). Edwina enjoyed sports, cooking, and had a flair for interior decorating.

Edwina was predeceased by Melvin E. Long, Sr. (husband), Melvin E. Long, Jr. (son), and Legend Toney (great-grandson).

Edwina leaves behind to cherish her memory: Mother Elma Lee Miller, Brother Robert E. Kelly (Carol), Sister Linda Yates (Dane), Daughters Tracey D. Long and Rosalind M. Long-Eaton (James). 7 grandchildren: Kristina Streater, Michael Toney, Megan Toney, Kenneth Streater Jr., Kyle Streater, Malcolm Toney and Kody Streater. 4 great-grandchildren: Jayda Streater-Jackson, Jayden Toney, Avery Toney, and Celine Paul.

Edwina is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends that she loved dearly.

Edwina fought uterine cancer with strength, courage, dignity, and hope. She did not let the disease become her. She fought to the very end. She may have lost the battle, but she did not lose the war. In her honor, the family requests that everyone wears blue.

A celebration of Edwina’s life will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden CT 06514. Visitation will take place at 8:30AM with a service to follow at 9:30AM. Burial to follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park 90 Pine Rock Avenue, New Haven CT 06514. The repass will be immediately following at The New Trinity Temple COGIC 285 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com
