Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Bowman departed this life on May 23, 2026, at Yale Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. She was born on September 3, 1957, to Willie Bowman Sr. and Johnnie Mae Harris. Betty attended New Haven Public Schools and, after graduating from high school, entered the workforce. She was employed at Hollywood Video for many

years and later worked for the New Haven Housing Authority. Betty will be remembered for her love of cooking, appreciation for oldies music, infectious laughter, captivating stories, and her incredibly big heart. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether through a home-cooked meal, a funny story, or simply her presence. Her kitchen was often the heart of the home, filled with the aromas of her favorite recipes and the sounds of classic tunes playing in the background. Betty's exuberant personality was impossible to miss—she never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. To know her was truly to love her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit, and a way of bringing smiles to those around her. Family gatherings were made brighter by her laughter, storytelling, and the love she poured into every occasion. More than anything, Betty cherished spending time with and caring for her loved ones. Her love for her children and grandchildren ran deep, and she took great pride in being a part of their lives. Whether offering words of encouragement, celebrating their accomplishments, or simply sharing everyday moments, she was a constant source of love, support, and strength. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every opportunity to create memories with them.

She is survived by her husband-partner, Mark Thompson, children: Jilanda Bowman, Jannisha Bowman, Mark Bowman, Malik Bowman, and Juwan Bowman; her brothers Lee Bowman (Rose) of Fort Myers, FL , Willie Bowman and Lord Taylor of New Haven, CT; her sisters Theresa and Rosanne Bowman of New Haven, CT. She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and a circle of friends who will forever cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her parents, Willie Bowman Sr and Johnnie Mae Wint; her son Johnny “Moop” Bowman; her brother, Alex “Shooter” Bowman; her sister, Janet Elaine Bowman-Sims; her grandson Johnny K Bowman and partner’s mother, Bessie Thompson and his brother Darryl Thompson, all of whom held a special place in her life.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Thursday, June 4th at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Ave., Hamden. Visitation will take place from 10-11 AM with a service to follow at 11 AM.
