Ernestine Bember Darden
February 22, 1955 – June 16, 2025
Ernestine Bember Darden, affectionately known as Ernie B., was born on February 22, 1955, in Dorchester, South Carolina, to the late Rethea Smith Bember and Gertshel Bember. She was the loving wife of the late David William Darden.
On June 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family, Ernestine peacefully entered eternal rest.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Ernestine is survived by her father, Gertshel Bember; her beloved sons Germar T. Bember, Nigel K. Bember, and Donyae C. Scott Sr.; and her stepdaughter Erika Malloy (Jimmie). She also leaves her dear sisters Mary Bember, Seleana Bember, and Patrice Bradshaw; her chosen sister Ann Pittman; and brothers Morris Bember, Lee Bember, and Lee Roy Bember.
Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren Tyhitt G. Bember, Ty’Jair Bember, Nyeja Bember, Devyn Bember, Raven Daniels, Terrance Bernier, Antonio Porto, Donyae C. Scott Jr., Da’Shaun Scott, Marcella Scott, and Ronnell Rogers Jr. Step grandchildren Jayla Bittle and Jimmie Malloy III. Great grandchildren London Rodger’s, Tyhitt Bember Jr., Kailyn Bember, Raegan Daniels Rayne Daniels, Rylnn Rogers and a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Rethea Smith Bember; her loving husband, David William Darden; and her brother, Richard “Cadilliac” Bember.
A celebration of Ernestine’s life and legacy is planned for Friday, June 27, 2025 at Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ, 285 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511. A wake and viewing will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am. Services will start at 11:00am. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
