George Acevedo Jr.

George Acevedo Jr. passed away peacefully Thursday, January 9 at the age of 59 in Schenectady, NY.  Georgie was born November 10, 1965 in Bronx, NY to George Sr. and Ramona Ayala and lovingly raised by Martha Acevedo.  He was raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico where he excelled in sports, particularly in track and field and won many awards.  It is also there, when his parents became Christians that his love for music began. Georgie was musically talented and since he was a teenager he wrote many songs and loved singing about the Lord as he played his guitar with so much passion.  He was a member of one of the musical groups in his local church Iglesia Juan 3:16 and was very involved in the church as well as school activities.  The family relocated to NY and Georgie continued track and field at Taft High School in the Bronx.  He was also involved in the local church Templo Pentecostal del

Dios Viviente where he was a Royal Rangers leader and where everyone loved to hear him sing alone and sometimes along his sister Michelle.  Georgie was a veteran having served in the United States Navy from 1984 until his honorable discharge in 1994.  He was known by his shipmates as “Ace” and was a member of the VA-34 Blue Blasters.  He moved to Waterbury, CT in 1995 where he continued to serve in the church Iglesia del Dios Viviente, always singing for the Lord.   Everyone who met Georgie instantly liked him for he was very lovable and charismatic and loved to talk.   He was a diehard fan of Notre Dame “Fighting Irish” Football team as well as all NY teams-Yankees, Knicks and Giants.   In 2021 He received a bachelor’s degree in Divinity from Christian Leaders Institute in Clearwater, FL.

Georgie is survived by his children Gian-Carlo and Josue G. Acevedo of Waterbury and Alyshia N. Acevedo of Suwanee, Georgia. His beautiful grandchildren Aaliyah Grace and Isaiah Gabriel of  Waterbury. He is pre-deceased by his father George Acevedo Sr. and both paternal and maternal grandparents.  As your navy fellow mates would say, “Fair winds and following seas.”  Eight bells for Ace, your watch is over.”  To God be the glory.
