George Martin

George Martin, 77, of New Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, after a long illness.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 29, 1947, George was the beloved son of the late Mary B. (Martin) Farnham and George (Butch) Martin.

He is survived by his brothers, Maurice “Chico, Face” Martin (Glenda “the Nurse”) and Robert “Bobby, Murdock” Martin (Debbie); his sister, Joyce Dixon (Hank); and his sister-in-law, Helene Martin. He also leaves behind several cherished nieces and nephews: Nicole Rivera (Paul), Jared “Mr.Clean” Martin (Tina), Desiree “Babboo” Martin (Adam), and Maurice “Chici, Scramble 2” Martin Jr. (Christine), along with many wonderful great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

George was a proud graduate of Southbury Training School in Southbury, Connecticut. He went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career with Blue Cross Blue Shield, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. He loved his job so much that he famously referred to work as “vacation” and home as “work”.

Thoughtful, kind, and endlessly playful, George had a unique sense of humor that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His nieces and nephews will forever associate TV show themes and balloons with his joyful presence. His literal sense of humor was legendary-if you told him you were getting your hair cut, he’d remind you that you have more than one strand, so technically, you were getting your “hairs” cut. He was also the master of nicknames; once he gave you one, it was yours for life.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who provided love and care during Georges illness: Chico, for his frequent visits, shopping, cooking, and companionship; Glenda, for her nurturing care and keeping everything in order; Desiree, Adam, and Christopher, for their daily watchfulness, assistance, and company; and Sibby, for always checking in and helping in any way possible.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 86 Circular Ave, Hamden, Connecticut.

George will be deeply missed, but his kindness, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com.
