Gina Milburn

Gina Milburn was originally from Brooklyn, New York. At the age of five, she and her sister moved to the Bronx after the loss of their mother at a young age. The girls were then raised by their grandfather, his wife and two sons.

As a child, Gina enjoyed the outdoors and exploring, and later developed a love for dogs and swimming; if there’s a pool she’s in it! During her junior high school years, she briefly played basketball, but her true talents shone in the kitchen. As an adult, after moving to Connecticut, Gina worked at Dunkin’ Donuts. It was there she became familiar with the community and enjoyed chatting with the local police officers and customers. Gina decided to officially make Connecticut home for herself and her son, Michael.
As a single parent, Gina recognized the need to pursue a career that offered both creativity and better financial stability. She began working at Dressbarn, holding various positions over the years, and was even selected as a plus-size model for their in-store style events. Gina loved helping customers complete their outfits and cherished the opportunity to bring smiles to their faces with her signature phrase, “Girl, that looks good!” She took pride in her work and could effortlessly start conversations with anyone, sharing advice, experiences or words of encouragement with family members and strangers alike. Gina transformed from the shy little girl with ponytails into a confident and outgoing woman.
After her time in the fashion industry, Gina began working in the kitchen at Ross Woodward School. She was at her happiest, as cooking was her passion. Although she followed specific guidelines at work, she loved putting her own spin on recipes when cooking at home. Following a back injury, Gina was no longer able to work in a commercial kitchen, but that didn’t stop her from cooking for family, friends, and even neighbors in need of a home-cooked meal.
While Gina loved to cook, her greatest joy in life was her son and grandson. She was a proud mother and grandmother. When her only son, Michael, was born, she was ecstatic, and when her grandson, Aziz, arrived, she was elated. Her two “guys” brought immense joy to her heart and her love for them could light up a room. Gina will truly be missed, but her kind words, heartfelt expressions, and radiant smile will live on in the memories of those she touched.
Gina leaves behind her son, Michael Milburn ; her grandson, Aziz Milburn ; her sister, Ms. D” Milburn -Alves; her brothers/uncles, Henry T. Milburn Jr. and Dwyane Milburn ; a dear aunt, Edith Flippin; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Lottie Johnson; her mother, Delina Milburn ; her grandfather/father, Henry T. Milburn Sr.; her bonus mother, Mattie Milburn ; and her brother, Gary Milburn .
A celebration of Gina’s life will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT at 12:30pm. Viewing in Colonial from 11:00-12:30pm. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
