In Loving Memory of Mother Gloria A. Lewis-Walker 

August 14, 1940 – June 9, 2026 

With hearts filled with love, gratitude, and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Gloria A. Lewis-Walker, who peacefully transitioned from earthly labor to eternal rest on June 9, 2026, born on August 14, 1940, in Hamlet, North Carolina, to the late Rev. Levi McLaurin & Essie Pitts. 

Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leon P. Walker, Sr., whom she loved dearly. She was also preceded in death by two of her children, Altanese Lewis and Vincent S. Lewis; Janet Walker; her brother, Rev. Gene McLaurin (Sarah); and her grandson, Kahlil McLean. 

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Deborah Vernell Moore (Michael), Wanda Robinson (Robert), Apostle John Levi Lewis (Janet), and Leon Walker, Jr. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, wisdom, and love. 

As the only daughter among five siblings, Gloria shared a special bond with her brothers: Ben Vereen, Jimmy Middleton, and Michael Darian, while holding dear the memory of her late brother, Gene McLaurin. 

Gloria treasured the friendships she cultivated throughout her life. She spent many meaningful years with special friends: Dr. William Fischer, Joan Cody, Jannish Porter, the late Wendy Gray, Ms. Edna, and Ms. Yvonne, enjoying countless conversations, laughter, and precious moments.

 A woman of steadfast faith, Gloria faithfully served at Christ New Testament Church under the leadership of her son, Apostle John Levi Lewis. She was a founding member and honored Mother at Christ New Testament Church (formerly known as Christ Chapel New Testament Church) where she served on the Deaconess Board, Choir, and Women's Prayer Retreat Ministry. A testament to her steadfast faith, she led a family prayer line for years, exemplifying servant leadership and a deep commitment to the Kingdom of God. Her life was a testimony of prayer, faithfulness, and unwavering trust in God. 

Professionally, Gloria dedicated fifteen years of service to the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services, formerly known as (DMR), where she worked diligently and compassionately. She was also a phlebotomist. Her servant's heart extended beyond her career, as she faithfully cared for the Crosby family for over fifty years, serving three generations with extraordinary love and dedication. She was a student at CBI – Christian Bible Institute under the leadership of the late Bishop William M. Philpot, Sr. 

Outside of her work and ministry, Gloria found joy in simple pleasures. She was an accomplished knitter who lovingly created beautiful Afghans, hats, and scarves. Yet among all her hobbies, one pastime stood above the rest: shopping. It brought her great delight and many treasured memories with those she loved. 

Mother Gloria was known for her warm smile, caring spirit, and encouraging words. Through every season of life, she often declared her favorite scripture-inspired quote, "The Joy of the Lord Is My Strength." 

Her life leaves a lasting legacy of faith, perseverance, service, and unconditional love. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. 

God blessed us with her presence, and we thank Him for the gift of her life.

A celebration of Gloria's life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Christ New Testament Church, 3680 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT 06518. Viewing will take place at 10:00 am with a service to follow at 11:00 am. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com
