Gloria Ann Smith, was the matriarch of our family. She was born Gloria Ann Harrison on March 22, 1946. She was called home to glory on January 22, 2026 at the blessed age of 79.
She was born to the late Gonzalee and Nathalie Harrison in Philadelphia PA. where she lived until she was married in the late 60's and moved to Detroit, MI. and started a family. She then moved to New Haven, CT. in the late 70s with her sister Evelyn, where she settled and currently lived and raised her kids.
Gloria was a hard working, amazing mother to her five children. Chevol Smith, Sidney Smith, Dawn Smith, Shirelle Williams and Martice Smith, 11 grandchildren whom she adored and 14 great grandchildren who will ALWAYS love and miss her dearly. There's no words to describe just how much.
She loved going fishing, to the casino and playing Pokeno, mention either one of those things and her eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas. ( If anybody in this family has a gambling problem blame it on my mom, for she was the one started us out betting nickels playing Pokeno at a young age.)
She will be truly missed by an enormous amount of family and friends. There was not a person she met that she wasn't willing to help and open her home to and that was evident by her children many friends that never wanted to go home, including her nieces and nephews. Especially Gilbert Whaley, Nakeya Harrison, Tyrone Holmes, and Shawn & Carl Harrison.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents Gonzalee & Nathalie Harrison, her beloved daughter Felicia Smith, brother's Gonzalee Harrison Jr. and Richard Harrison, sister's Marion Whaley and Evelyn Holmes a.k.a Cookie/Linda/MeMe/ Bahama Mama, nephews Gilbert and Michael Whalley, and her nieces Donna Harrison, Yvette Anderson. (Beppie) and Michelle Bennett. (Shelly), Tavana Alford.
Gloria was the baby of her parents and the last of them to be called home to glory. Where Jesus, her parents and siblings awaited her with open arms. She leaves behind broken and torn hearts to carry on the love and legacy of an amazing role model. She was loving, caring, understanding, compassionate, forgiving, strong, and a godly woman.
Gloria was not just our mom. She was a hero!!
Thank you Mommy for all your love in a world so full of hate and thank you God for her...
