Gregory Ray Gibbs

Gregory Ray Gibbs was born on February 9, 1958 in New Haven, CT to the late Lonnie Sr. and Doris Smith Gibbs. He departed this life surrounded by his loving wife Loray and devoted family on July 5, 2023.

Gregory obtained his education in the New Haven and West Haven School Systems. Gregory spent many years of his life in Pamlico County, NC where he worked many jobs. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, watching movies, and cheering on his favorite football team, the New York Giants with his grandsons. Gregory was known for his sense of humor and being the life of the party. Gregory made every place he went his home and every person his friend. Those who knew him, knew he loved his wife Loray and family very much.

He was predeceased by his father, Lonnie Gibbs Sr.; paternal grandparents, Alonzo Gibbs and Julia O’Neal Gibbs; maternal grandparents, Lamb Smith Sr. and Lena Sanderlin Smith; sister Felicia Gibbs; brother Lonnie Gibbs Jr.; grand-daughter, Divinia Hawkins.

Gregory leaves to cherish his precious memory; his wife Loray Elliott-Gibbs, his mother, Doris Smith Gibbs of New Bern NC; Sisters, Terese Gibbs of NC, Robin Robinson (Joseph) of CT, Cheryl Brown of CT and Vanessa “Ann” Jordan of CT; brothers, Scott Gibbs of NC, and Sean Gibbs of NC; aunts, Virgella Warren (Bernard) of CT, Beatrice Woodard of NC, Elizabeth “Dent” Moore of NC, Linda Sawyer,  Seven children; daughter Nikkia Hawkins (David) of New Haven, CT, son Gregory Coleman of New Haven, CT,  daughter Sherill Chambers of West Haven, CT, son Sheraud Jones (Alethia) of Bayboro NC, son Kwamanne Jones (Brittany) of Atlanta GA, daughter Lashaunda Elliott of West Haven, CT, daughter Shaluanda Brady (Justin) of Meriden, CT Sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren and host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Siblings of the heart; Ronald Williams of CT, Terry and Juanita Riggins of NC, Michael “Mike” Moore of NC; Son of heart James “Dulah” Jones of NC.

A celebration of Gregory’s life will be held on Thursday July 20, 2023 at 11am at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden CT 06514. Viewing in Colonial from 10-11am. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
