Hazel Sparkman, 82, passed away on February 9, 2022 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT. She was born in Elizabeth City, NC on June 10, 1939 to Claude Wood Sr. and Bulah Combs Wood.
Hazel grew up in Elizabeth City, NC and graduated from Perquimans High School. After graduation she moved to Waterbury CT with her beloved husband. She was a nursing assistant and worked in many nursing homes including Oakcliff Convalescent Home for many years before retirement.
Hazel was happily married to the late Mr. Jarrie C. Sparkman. They had seven children. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, reading her bible, and cooking (especially her fish). What she loved the most was the regular visits and time she spent with loved ones, her children, her grandchildren, four nieces, and cousins.
Hazel is survived in memory and legacy by her children Mrs. Sharon Thompson, Andrea Sparkman, Marion Booker of Charlotte, NC, Kimberlyn Sparkman of Raleigh NC, Jerri Christina Sparkman, Robin Renee Sparkman of Waterbury CT, her only son Jerome C. Sparkman of Waterbury CT; several nephews, several nieces including Veda Kirven, Lori Kirven of Raleigh NC, Cathy Kirven and Bulah Wiggins of Waterbury CT; Several cousins plus special cousins Clara James and Karen (Annettte Overton) Hadley of Waterbury CT; brother in law Raymond (Barbara) Sparkman of Gates NC; special grandson Davon Sparkman; four brothers Walter Wood, Jerry Wood, Garry Wood, and Daryl Wood Sister in law Kim Parker and son in law Charles Bollo; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her daughter Kecia Monique Sparkman, grandson Javon Sparkman, granddaughter Jakia Monique Sparkman, niece Lori Riddick Stevenson, brother Claude Wood Jr., sisters Marjorie Wood and Sherrell Wood and her favorite niece Rashonda Wood.
A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10am at Grace Baptist Church.Viewing in church from 9-10am. Interment follow at New Pine Grove, Cemetery. James R.
