In Loving Memory of Hector Ruben Vasquez

Hector Ruben Vasquez, lovingly known to many as Ruben or Ruby Rock, was born on November 25, 1963, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to Dionicia Martinez and Carmelo Vasquez. He passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, in New Haven, Connecticut, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, hard work, creativity, and kindness.

Hector was a devoted father, a loving grandfather, and a true family man. His greatest joy was the love he shared with his children and grandchildren. He cherished his family deeply and took great pride in watching his loved ones grow. He was always there to offer his guidance, support, laughter, and unconditional love. His children, grandchildren, and family were at the center of his heart, and the memories he created with them will be treasured forever.

Throughout his life, Hector was a hardworking and talented man who took pride in creating things with his own hands. He dedicated many years to carpentry and sheetrock work and was also a gifted freelance painter. His creativity and talent could be seen in the work he left behind, reflecting the patience, dedication, and pride he brought to everything he did.

Hector was also known for his generous heart and willingness to help others. He was the kind of man who would lend a helping hand whenever someone needed it, never expecting anything in return. His kindness touched many lives, and his generosity was a reflection of the person he was at heart.

Music was another special part of Hector's life. He had a deep love for music, and it brought him happiness throughout the years. The songs he enjoyed and the memories connected to them will forever be part of the moments his family remembers and cherishes about him.

Hector is survived by his beloved children, Gabrielle Gaetano, Giovanni Vasquez, Danielle Gaetano, and Hayley Maldonado, and his cherished grandchildren, Vincent, Mae'lani, Alani, Giovanni Jr., Lealah, Emillio, and Kamryn. He is also survived by his siblings, Lydia (Elvis) Garcia, Lisette Martinez, Maria Vasquez, Jorge (Jeanette) Martinez, Milton (Maria) Maldonado, Eddie (Vidalina) Melendez Jr., Linda Melendez, and Juan Melendez, along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever hold him in their hearts. 

Hector was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dionicia Martinez and Carmelo Vasquez; his stepfather, Eddie Melendez; and his brothers, Benjamin Martinez, Miguel Vasquez, and Luis Mejias.

Though his passing leaves an unimaginable emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, Hector's legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, siblings, family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. His love will continue through the generations, his stories will continue to be told, and his memory will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew him.

The work of his hands, the music he loved, the kindness he showed, and most of all, the love he gave to his family will never be forgotten. Hector lived a life that mattered, and his presence in this world made a difference.Until we meet again, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, and Friend.You will be deeply missed, eternally loved, and forever remembered.
