Helen Joyce Hailey

Helen Joyce Hailey (1935-2024) a dedicated mother, rock and friend was a caring and giving soul who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Born in Wake County, North Carolina to Capers and Myrtle Heggie on September 1st her character was quickly defined at 13 years old when after her mother died she reared her five younger siblings. Later she would move to New Haven, Connecticut, and marry Lannie A. Hailey and have four children of her own that she would later raise on her own.

She was a long standing member of Vertical Church before the pandemic where she served as a greeter welcoming visitors at the door. She also enjoyed volunteering on the Church’s dream team, cleaning crew and serving patrons at the church’s soup kitchen. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, going on bus trips and attending various events. Helen was a blessing to her family and every life she touched. To all that knew and loved her, her life serves as a testimony to the true meaning of caring and giving of yourself.

She was predeceased by her parents and all seven siblings. A son, Ellis Hailey and a daughter, Debra Fuqua. A great grandchild, Madysen Hailey and a son-in-law, Donald Walker.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Gloria Hailey-Walker and Brenda Hailey of New Haven. Grandchildren, Antwan (Lakei) Hailey of New Haven. Sable Renee Williams, Helen Yera and James Joseph Fuqua of Atlanta, GA. Great-grandchildren Wynter Hailey (NH) and Mha’rya Anderson (GA) along with step great-grandchildren, Keyaira Reddick (NH) and Terrence Walker Jr. (NH) and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11am at Colonial Funerals 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT. Viewing in Colonial from 10-11am. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
