Hilda Janice Manning, age 69 of West Haven, CT transitioned from this earthly tabernacle to her eternal home on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Hilda Janice was born on October 29, 1956, in Norfolk, Va to the late James and Hilda Crumble Manning.
In 1967 the family relocated from Virginia Beach, VA to New Haven, CT. She received her education in Virginia Beach VA and New Haven Public Schools. She graduated from High School in the Community in 1976 and afterwards she received certifications in the medical field.
Hilda Janice was a former member of Morning Star UFWB Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Charles Smith Sr. At Morning Star, she was a member of the Sunday School, Junior Choir and Mass Choir. One of the songs she led was “Oh How Precious.” In 2004 she joined St Andrews Tabernacle of Praise under the leadership of her sister, Pastor Overseer Ophelia Smith.
Hilda Janice leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, John C Huckabey, Sr, Jeffrey K Manning (Tyquesha), four grandchildren, John C Huckabey Jr., Malia L. Frasier, Zyir, and Zuri Manning. Two sisters, Overseer Ophelia Smith (Samuel), Carolyn Barrett-Howard (Kelven) and one brother, James K. Manning and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, family and friends.
Hilda Janice was predeceased by her parents James and Hilda Crumble Manning, her brother in love, William H. Barrett.
A celebration of life for Hilda Manning will be held Friday, May 22nd, 2026 at the Greater Mount Carmel Church, 399 Goodrich Street, Hamden, CT 06514. Viewing will take place at 10:00AM with a service to follow at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella T Grasso Blvd, New Haven CT, 06519.
