Jacqueline Elizabeth Lewis Clarke 94, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2023. She was born September 4th, 1928 to the late John Lewis and Rose Thomas Lewis. Growing up with her siblings she was close to her mother and Aunt Lyn Mann and attended Varick Zion AME Church. Where she obtained her Christian influence. Prov. 22:6
Later she attended the Church of God & Saints of Christ on Beers Street New Haven where she met Enoch Clarke. She was an excellent student and graduated from Commercial High of New Haven, Class of 1946. Enabled with administrative skills Jacqueline always liked office work, was good at typing, was hired at Harris Secretarial Service, and worked as an office clerk. However, soon after she would marry Enoch Clarke on August 31st, 1947, and had five children Carolyn, Donald, Gary, Randy, and Robert. A devoted mother and homemaker. Loved to cook always willing to try something new and different. She attended PTA meetings to make the best of their education. She became a member at the Bethel AME Church in New Haven where she would be an usher. Easy to get along with and loved to laugh. And for the most part, was a quiet person at heart.
Jacqueline leaves a family legacy: her sister Gwendolyn (Molly) McClure of New Haven, her brothers Vincent Lewis and his wife Marie and James Lewis and his wife Carolyn both of New Haven, her daughter Carolyn Clarke of New Haven, her sons Randy Clarke and his wife Olga of Hamden, Robert Clarke and his wife Victorine of Bowie, MD, granddaughter Mawa Clarke of Bowie, MD, grandson Tyree Clarke of Los Angeles, CA, grandson Sean Clarke and his wife Lydgia of Boston, MA, grandson Aaron Clarke-Martin of Hamden, grandson Mael Clarke-Martin of Hamden, and great-grandson Elias Clarke of Boston, MA. as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Enoch Clarke, her sons Donald Clarke and Gary Clarke, her sisters Joyce Sessler and Phyllis Lewis-Dixon, and her brothers Ronnie Lewis, Marcus Lewis, Robert Lewis, and Richard Lewis.
A celebration of Jacqueline’s life will be held on Friday, February 10th, 2023 , at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT 06514 . Funeral Service is at 11am . Internment Service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery 769 Ella Grasso Blvd. New Haven, CT 06516. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
