James Earl Becton was affectionately known by relatives and friends as "pig" entered eternal rest peacefully in the loving presence of his devoted wife on Monday, August 10, 2026 at the Cheshire House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waterbury CT. He was born on July 27,1940 in Green County, North Carolina, as the only child to the late James Eddie Becton and the late Luvenia Ormond Becton. His education was received in the Green County public schools. in 1958 James graduated from (GCTS) Green County Training School, Snow Hill, NC.
In his early years he relocated to New Haven, CT. James was employed by Abilene Pest Control Company for several years and later, worked for Winchester Repeating Arms New Haven, CT. where he retired. James lived a life of love, laughter, and above all music"A Passionate Vocalist." He lifted the spirits of many in the New Haven and Waterbury Communities. James treated every listener like an old friend and every song like a shared story. His life was defined by unconditional bondless love, kindness, friendliness, and care for others. Although James "was an only child' he is survived by loving cousins who were like sisters, and brothers that shared an unbreakable bond. The early closeness set the tone for his whole life.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of thirty-four years Shirly Hobbs Becton, Daughter, Dallas Anderson of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Sons, Elton Becton, James Edwards, Erik Becton Richardson, of New Haven CT. bonus Children, Charlene White, Zelda Hobbs, Alfred Hobbs of Waterbury, CT. and a host of combined grandchildren, great grandchildren,
Nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is survived by his son-in-law, Larry Weldon of Hookerton, NC. He is predeceased by his daughter-in-law Tamara C. Becton, sister-in-law, Willie Lee Hobbs, brother -in-law Walter Hobbs, his beloved daughter, Sharon Kaye Becton Weldon. (July 2, 2026.)

A celebration of James life will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Colonial Funerals at 11am. Viewing in Colonial from 10am-11am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury, CT. The funeral arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funerals 270 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT and James R. Sanders, Funeral Director. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
