James Monroe Jones

Mr. James Monroe Jones was born on January 11, 1934 in Society Hill, S.C. to the late Marbel Jones and the late Grover Beaty. He was reared by his Grandparents, Kempus and Rosie Jones. He was a 1952 graduate of the Rosenwald High School. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army, where he was stationed in Germany.

After retiring, he was located to Waterbury, Connecticut where he began his career at Scovill, Inc. where he was employed for 30 years, and earned his first title as a Journey Men Supervisor. He retired at the age of 62.

In 1959 he met and married the love of his life, Gracie M. Dennis- Jones. Monroe was a quiet well preserved gentlemen who loved

spending time with his family. His passion was reading and owning Antique Cars, which he always kept clean and beautiful. His last Antique Car was a 1965 Chevy Impala, Super Sport Canary Yellow Covertible, which he named Betsy.

Monroe transitioned from this life on September 29, 2021. He is preceded in death by his two sons Ricky Byrd and Maurice J. Roberts and one sister, Lois Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his beloved wife, Mrs. Gracie Dennis-Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Vicky (Earl) Daniels, of Atlanta, Ga.; Ms. Sandra Crawford of Paterson, NJ; Mr. Johnny (Barbara) Dennis of Cordele, Ga; one sister, Ms. Rosenia Robinson of Society Hill, S.C.; one Brother, Mr. Delome Jones of Waterbury, CT; one sister-in-law, Ms. Baserine Grace of Perry, Ga.; Five Brother-In-Laws ; Mr. Eddie (China Bell) Dennis of Jacksonville, Florida; Mr. Bennie (Carolyn) Colson of Perry, Ga.; Mr. Willie Colson of Atlanta, Ga.; Mr. Robert Dennis and Mr. David Colson of Akron, Ohio, several grandchildren, great grand children, great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many, many sorrowing friends.

A celebration of James’s life will be held on Friday October 8, 2021 at Colonial Funerals at 11am. Viewing from 10-11am. Interment to follow with Military Honors at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. James R. Sanders funeral director and Colonial Funerals 270 West Main Street, Waterbury.
