James C. Newton

Mr. James C. Newton was born on September 9, 1959 at Grace New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT to the late Joe and the late Flora (Leak) Newton. On May 29, 2023, James transitioned to his eternal home. James received his formal education from James Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT. He was employed as a Machine Operator and worked for various industries throughout the Waterbury area. James enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, as well as watching the New York Knicks and Giants. James was a member of Unity Temple Church, Waterbury, CT under the leadership of Pastor David J. Byars. He was a member of the Male Chorus, an avid supporter of Sunday School as well as being an active member of the Men’s Ministry.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 33 years, Bessie Sears-Newton, step-sons, Wayne, Tony, Robbie and Quincy; granddaughters, Cassaundra, Niesha and Rihanna; brother, Joe Newton of Hamden, CT; sisters, Anne Newton-Bynoe of Fayetteville, NC, and Flora Newton of Hamden, CT; sisters-in law, Elsie Mayes and Darlene Mayes; a great-aunt, Eodia B. Leak of Fayetteville, NC, an uncle, John E. Leak of Spring Lake, NC, a great-uncle, Lonnie Leak of San Jose, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his beloved church family. We will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday June 6, 2023 in Family Worship Center, 258 Montoe Road, Waterbury, Connecticut at 11am. Viewing in Church from 10-11am. Condolences maybe expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
