Listen to Obituary

James R. Fisher, Sr.  known to all as Jimmy , was born in Greenwood South Carolina, on February 7, 1930 to the late Emma and Wince Fisher.  Raised in Greenwood, Jimmy moved to Connecticut as a young person. While in Connecticut Jimmy lived in Hartford for many years. Upon moving to New Haven to live and work, Jimmy met and married Jean Morrison in August of 1960 to that union they had three children.  He was a dedicated husband, father and an excellent provider for his family. He raised his family in the Brookside community and was an avid fisherman. As a professional Teamster truck driver, his job took him all throughout New England often times working long hours coving thousands of miles of construction roadway.  As a fisherman, his relaxation was found on the waters of the Long Island Sound and Stoney Creek where he would fish for hours, often time selling his large catch in the Brookside and Rockview neighborhoods. After retiring from trucking, Jimmy could be found at Ferraro’s often times serving as taxi to many who may have needed a ride to and from the grocery store.  Jimmy provided transportation with great pride and was a fixture in that community. As years went on he relocated and settled into Norwich, Connecticut where he lived until his passing. Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory his three children: Lori Fisher of Norwich Conn; Jeannine Fisher of Gastonia, North Carolina and James Fisher, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina. Seven Grandchildren: Kendall Fisher, Brandon Fisher, Brittany Santos, Troy Fisher, Brandi Fisher, Marcus Harris and Alexus Stroman as well as  7 Great-Grand children.
