James Arthur Townsend Sr.

James Arthur Townsend Senior, age 76, of Northford, who entered peacefully rest, Tuesday, February 14, 2023 while a patient at arc healthcare and rehabilitation at Branford Hills, Branford, CT. Born October 26, 1946, Tuskegee AL. He was the son of the late Saul Townsend and Willie Clara Chell Townsend. He is survive by his devoted wife of 51 years, Carolyn H. Townsend of the home which he was surrounded by during his time of death. He was survived by his son, James A. Townsend Jr. of East Haven, CT, daughter, LaDonna M. Smith two stepdaughters Cathy Owens and Penny Whitfield, four grandchildren, Guensha N. Hampton, Carol N. Smith, Thelbert Earl Whitfield Jr. And James Townsend Jr. He has two sisters, Jessica Murray of Jacksonville, Florida, Barnette Joubert of Houston, Texas. He also has one brother, Narmon Townsend. Educated in public schools of Alabama. James was a former employee of Stop & Shop warehouse in North Haven CT, until he retired after 37 years. Also a warehouse laborer, before becoming a truck driver for the company. He was also employed by M&J bus company, North Haven CT.
