Janiese Shaqueena Maye, affectionately known as Jig and Neek Neek, passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 28. Born on May 23, 1997, in New Haven, Connecticut, she was the beloved daughter of Passion Shaqueena Harris and Solomon Dwayne Maye. Janiese was a proud graduate of Eli Whitney Technical High School, where she studied plumbing. She was a dedicated and hardworking young woman who applied her skills and determination across several fields, including construction, healthcare, and security. No matter the task before her, she showed up, worked hard, and persevered—strength and resilience were at the core of who she was. Janiese leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Passion Shaqueena Harris, and her devoted father, Solomon Dwayne Maye. She is also survived by her brothers, Solomon Dwayne Maye Jr., Malik Sheri’ff Anthony Hunter, Sonai Maye and Kyle Jamar Valentine, and her beloved nephew, Jeremiah Maye. She held a special place in her heart for her godsons, Truce Coleman and Kamari Ware. Janiese is further survived by her grandparents, Shirley Bookert, James Moore, and Janet Maye; her uncles, Anthony Harris, Rodney Brewer, and Jamal Harris; and her aunts, Shirley Brewer, April Brewer, Lajune Brewer, Renita Brewer, Ivory Brewer, and Keisha Maye. Her memory will also be cherished by a host of cousins, extended relatives, and many devoted friends who loved her dearly. Janiese was preceded in death by her great-grandmother Evelyn Harris, great-grandfather Silas Harris Jr., and grandfather Melvin Bookert.
A Celebration of Janiese's Life will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ, 285 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven at 11am. Viewing in Church from 10am-11am. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com.
