Jerre Davis was born on August 26, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Joyce Hardaway and Jerry Davis, her beloved mother and father. She was also predeceased by her stepfather, Charles Sellers. In her early years, Jerre moved from Texas to Springfield, Massachusetts, where she resided until the age of 27. She later migrated to New Haven, Connecticut, where she made her home for the past 50 years.
Jerre is survived by her six loving children, five sons and one daughter: Gregory Davis of Springfield, Massachusetts; Stacy Dixon of New Haven, Connecticut; Paul Burwell of Waterbury,Frederick Smith of Springfield, Massachusetts; Todd Burwell Sandra) and Donald Bradley, both of New Haven, Connecticut;.
She was a long-time resident of the New Haven community, where she touched many lives through her kindness and generosity. Jerre worked faithfully for The Foundation until her retirement. She was known for her loving heart and her honesty, if she felt something, she would tell you exactly how she felt. Whether she knew you or not, her warmth and compassion always showed through. Jerre was as blessed with thirteen beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
She is also survived by her loving siblings, four sisters and two brothers. She was predeceased by her sisters Brenda Davis and Claudia Franklin. Her surviving sisters are Sandra Sellers of Providence Rhode Island, and Jacqueline Sellers of Savannah, Georgia. Her brothers are
Ron Davis(Barbara) of Springfield, Massachusetts, and Charles W. Sellers Jr.(Marcia), also of Springfield, Massachusetts.
For over 30 years, Jerre was a cherished member of her New Haven neighborhood, where everyone knew her as "Miss Jerre" Her home was known for good company, good conversation, and especially good cooking.
A spiritual woman, Jerre was a devoted member of Mount Calvary Deliverance Tabernacle in New Haven. She was also active in the senior community and participated in programs with the New Haven Public Schools Department. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unconditional, and she expressed it in her own special way, full of grace, humor, and heart.
On the day she transitioned, our mother was surrounded by love.
She waved goodbye, closed her eyes, and quietly slipped into her eternal rest, peaceful and prepared for her heavenly home.
Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and everyone she touched. She was elegant, classy, and strong until her very last breath. Her only daughter lovingly kept her promise to remain by her side until the end.
Miss Jerre will forever be remembered for her strength, spirit, and unwavering love for her family and community.
A celebration of Jerre's Life will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden CT. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00AM.
