John Marshall Benton 68, of New Haven, CT departed on February 25, 2025. He was born on June 17, 1957 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late Willie Benton Jr. and Creola Gardner Benton.
He was known to some as JB, Johnny, Boo Boo, Bro. Tilley and the Lil one. He received his education from Ivy Street School, Sheridan Middle School, and graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, CT.
John worked at Clarks Cleaning, Dee’s Garbage Company, Tire Doctor and CT Wheel n Rim, as well as Joe Perry’s Auction.
He was one of the family’s comedians, a jokester and at every family gathering he would do little skits with sayings such as ooo wee, pull the hammer down, ya big bone head, ya silly rabbit all you have to do is kick the habit. (Done only when he was turned all the way up) these sayings will be remembered by his family and friends, and will never be forgotten.
His favorite hobbies were fishing, cooking, playing the drums and listening to old school music.
Johnny loved his family, relatives and friends. He was spoiled by some and would do anything to help those in need. He was a true fighter who fought through his illnesses.
Johnny leaves to mourn his daughter Joneisha Benton. Two grandchildren; Romelo Dunkley and Jewel Dunkley. One special nephew/son; Tywan Benton. Seven brothers; Robert Benton (Ada), Horace Benton, Richard Benton (Vivian/New Haven, Ct), and David Benton all of Darlington, South Carolina. James Benton of Meriden, CT. Michael Benton of East Haven, CT. Mark Benton of Hartford, CT. Five sisters; Patricia Benton, Felicia Benton-McCoy (Theodore) of New Haven, CT. Dr. Sharlene Perry (William) Anita Benton of West Haven, CT. Myra Benton-Waters (Ronald) of Hamden, CT. Five aunts; Dorothy Jacobs, Jose Lee Townsend of Darlington, SC. Bessie Gilbert, Lillian Gardner, Lois Robinson of New Haven, CT. Three uncles; Joel Benton of New York, Sylvester Gardner, Bobby Gilbert of New Haven, CT. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
John was predeceased by his daughter; Dawn, father; Willie Benton Jr., mother; Creola Gardner- Benton, sister; Marnita Benton, and brothers; Joel Benton, George Benton, and Charles Benton Johnny was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration will be held o Friday March 7, 2025 in God Miracles Unlimited Church, 1441 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden at 11. Viewing in Church 10am-11am. Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com.
