Joseph Henry Newton, 62, of New Haven, Connecticut, transitioned into eternal life on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 12, 1962, in New Haven, CT, he was the beloved son of Fannie Tisdale and the late John Newton.
Joseph was educated in the New Haven Public School System and graduated from High School in the Community. From an early age , he developed a passion for music while traveling with his church, where he learned to play several instruments. That early love for music shaped much of his life. After graduation, he pursued that passion by forming his own musical group, The Young Generation & Blue Diamonds. He went on to write and produce music for The Cuzz Band, showcasing his creativity and musical talent. In 1998, Joseph relocated to Washington, D.C., where he started his own business (Washington Enterprise) as a handyman, another craft he deeply enjoyed. He was known for his strong work ethic, laid-back nature, and humble spirit. Above all, Joseph loved his family and cherished his children.
His presence lives on through his parents Fannie & George Tisdale. His children: Joseph Newton, Nicholas Newton, Rashad Newton, Bryan Hagigal , Terell Washington, L’Shandra (Sultan) Bembry -Newton, Nikita Stone, L’Shae Newton, Diavion Hagigal and Joquitta Muse along with his beloved grandchildren. Jaden, Jordan, Joseph lll, Nicholas Jr., Zyon , Mason, Josan, Ke’Vonna, Ke’Lis, Madison, Alaia, Chila , Qumel , Tamariana , Kwudett and Jurell .
He also leaves his siblings: David (Delores) Newton, John Newton, Freddie Newton, Lamont ( Turkessa ) Newton, Ben Tisdale, Shamont Tisdale, Rose Reid, Michelle Newton, and Patrice (Richard) Vessel, Cheryl (Joseph) McKnight, George ( Monique) Tisdale, Veronica (Friday) Otamere , Doreen ( Donald) Harris. His bonus siblings include Danyel, Larry, and Jacoby Wilkins, as well as Chanda and Jajuan ( Larhonda ) Newton and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Joseph was predeceased by his father John Newton, sisters Jennie Newton, Ernestine Newton, Sheila Tisdale, and Valencia Tisdale.
Joseph will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for music, and the kindness he shared with everyone who knew him. His legacy will continue to live on through the lives and hearts of his family.
A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held on Friday October 17, 2025 at 11am at Trinity Temple Church of God 285 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT. Viewing in Church from 9-11am. Burial to follow at Hamden Plains Cemetery, Hamden, CT. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
