Joseph Anthony Togba Jr (55), of West Haven, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, May 25, 2024. He was born in Dixville, Morovia, Liberia, on June 15 , 1968.He graduated from ETMI School in Caldwell, Liberia in 1987. He came to America, September 15, 1995 to pursue his soccer career.
His family was very important to him, he lacked to make sure they never went without and had no problem opening his doors to family and friends. He enjoyed life and was happy just to spend time with the people he loved. He loved to cook, he was famous for taking days to finish cooking, but it got done eventually. Some of his specialties being Torborgee, Pepper soup and Fufu, and Collard greens. He loved his kids, dancing, listening to music, engaging in great conversation, every aspect of soccer, and being on the go. Joseph was a hard working man. While living in the United States he worked at CTC (where he met his best friends),Golden Medel, Pez,Schick,and Glanbia(Waston) for 23 years. Due to his immense love for soccer,another one of his jobs was being a referee. You could catch him on Sundays throughout the summer on “the Boulevard” or at CFC in the winter. Joseph won many awards during these times.
He was a man of faith, believing God would protect him through every situation. He joined the Union Baptist Church in Dixville where he later was baptized. Joseph was a very active member of the church, participating in the choir and Sunday School teaching.
He was a strong and independent man, respected for the knowledge and wisdom he shared and his perseverance no matter the challenge. He was a caring person and encouraged those around him to always seek self improvement. He didn’t sugar coat his words, had an opinion about absolutely everything, and wanted things done his way and if not his way, you were doing it wrong.
Joseph is survived by the love of his life Ophilia Anderson(West Haven CT);his children Anthony(Iowa),Princess, Kyshawn, and Ky’mah(West Haven CT);His Mother,Annette Barclay(West Haven CT); Two grandchildren, Prince (West Haven CT); granddaughter Esther (Iowa) Three sisters Sharon Robinson(Georgia); Florence Davies( Meriden CT); Sylvia Davies(Georgia); Brothers Abram Robinson(West Haven CT); Sundaygai Allen(Waterbury CT); Sayvojee Allen(West Haven CT); Cudjoe Conduah(Maryland); Roland Conduah(Liberia); He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildrens and close friends. Joseph was predeceased by his father Joseph Anthony Togba Sr. and a host of other family members and close friends.
A Celebration of Joseph’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 in Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden at 4pm. Viewing in Colonial from 3-4pm. Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com.
