Mrs. Jovita (Mama) Otero age 83, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at VITAS inpatient Hospice Unit at St Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT from a brief illness surrounded by her loving family.  She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Antonio Otero.   She was born on February 15, 1937 in Hatillo, PR.  She was daughter of the late Cristino Lopez and Felicita Lopez.  Jovita was a very caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister whom everyone lovingly referred to as “Mama”.    She moved to CT in the mid 60’s.  She provided day care to children of many family and friends including her grandchildren.  She then went to work as a parts inspector for Cly-Del Manufacturing Corp in Waterbury for 15 years before retiring in 2002.  She was a devoted long time member of the Legend of Mary of St. Cecila’s church which later moved to Sacred Heart church. Jovita loved her family and enjoyed the little things in life. She had a huge heart.  She enjoyed cooking and making her family happy was her priority.  She showed great strengths at moments of adversity.  She was a hard working dedicated person. She is survived by her sister Carmen Gonzalez (FL) and brother Julio Lopez (FL), her daughter, Brenda Arroyo and her husband Richard Arroyo, her son Angel Otero and his wife Jacqueline Otero, grandchildren: Cecilio Quinones III, Adrian Quinones and his wife Samantha, Rebecca Quinones, Olivia Arroyo, Angel Otero Jr., Jaelyn Otero, Miguel Rivera and Sasha Fisher: her great-grandchildren Lillian, Mya, Vivian and Elijah as well as many nieces and nephews.  Jovita was predeceased by her loving daughter Ana Otero Fisher, her sister Efigenia Lopez Cardona and her brother Juan Lopez. The Otero family would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to VITAS and especially Kathleen L. for their compassionate kind and caring support.

Visitation will be held on Monday March 23, 2020 at Colonial Funeral Home, 270 West Main Street, Waterbury from 9-11am. Funeral Services will start at 11am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. In light of the current COVID 19 situation, we ask all visitors to please refrain from attending if you are showing signs of cold or flu like symptoms.
